ArcMenu – A Beautiful Menu Alternative for GNOME 3

ArcMenu is GNOME Shell extension designed to beautifully replace the default menu that ships in GNOME 3 desktop. Apart from being typically more beautiful than the default GNOME 3 menu, it has extended functionality like a search feature and the currently logged in user.

It features a look reminiscent of the typical Windows menu with regards to how apps are grouped into categories and how it has buttons that serve as shortcuts to the system settings and software center.

ArcMenu is not just a stable-enough extension but it can be seamlessly integrated with other GNOME extensions e.g. Dash to Dock, and Dash to Panel.

Features in ArcMenu

  • FOSS – ArcMenu is free to use and because it is an open source project, you can contribute to its source code on GitHub.
  • Customization – use any stable system theme and icon selection of your choice.
  • Integration with Dash to Dock and Dash to Panel.
  • Works best with GNOME 3.
  • Search field.
  • Session settings.

For new Linux users who usually want to maintain the Windows menu style, ArcMenu is the best pick right now. It is memory friendly; easy to install and customize, and works well with other GNOME extensions.

Of course, you will need to be running GNOME desktop environment to use the extension.
