Install Cinnamon 3.0 in Ubuntu 16.04
Written by Aaron Kili

Cinnamon is a Linux desktop environment that is designed to provide users advanced and innovative features with a traditional feel and experience. It is originally a fork of the popular GNOME shell.

Cinnamon 3.0 was recently released and it brings about a lot of changes under the hood. Clement Lefebvre who is the leader of the Linux Mint development team, has brought to our notice that Cinnamon 3 is especially meant for Linux Mint 18.

Therefore, users of Linux Mint 17.x may not be able to enjoy the new features and functionalities that Cinnamon 3 brings.

The following is the list of features and changes included in the new Cinnamon 3 version:

  • Tilling, mapping and unmapping windows and so many other windows management improvements
  • touchpad support which includes edge scrolling and two-finger scrolling
  • renaming battery powered devices
  • application actions in panel launchers
  • dialogs and menus with animated effects
  • new sound and accessibility settings
  • improved support for GTK 3.20, Viber Spotify 0.27
  • disable favorites and system options from menu applet and so much more
