MusixMatch – Synchronized Music Lyrics on Your Linux Desktop

If you are a super music fan then you probably love singing along to tracks and to do that you need to be able to access music lyrics at your beck and call.

There is already a bag full of music lyric applications in the open source community but today we inform you about one that I am sure many people have been waiting for. It goes by the name of MusixMatch and it is finally available for Linux!

MusixMatch is the most popular platform for searching and sharing music lyrics. According to Wikipedia, it is the largest lyrics platform in the world with a total of 60 million users, 14 million lyrics and 30 employees since its establishment in 2010.

MusixMatch hasn’t officially announced a desktop app for Linux but there actually is an available client you can use. It runs in its own window with the lyrics set to float on top by default. The Window is responsive and features mouse-over play/pause controls, alongside links to edit or synchronize lyrics.

Features in MusixMatch

  • Synchronized lyrics.
  • Minimal User Interface.
  • Desktop integration.
  • Scrollable floating lyrics.
  • Option to read static lyrics of a scrollable page.
  • Integration support for several mp3 players.
  • Option to launch app on system startup.
  • Support for desktop notifications on track change.

At the moment, MusixMatch on Linux works with Spotify for Linux Preview alone (even though it runs like a separate app in its own window).

The good thing is that Spotify for Linux Preview is available to download as a flatpak app and can be painlessly installed using the following command:

$ flatpak install flathub com.spotify.Client

As for MusixMatch, find out more about it by clicking the button below.

Are you looking forward to having a better official client for MusixMatch on Linux? Because I expect that the company will make that happen sooner or later. What do you think? Drop your opinions in the comments section below.

And feel free to also share your experience with the app as well.
