Install Qmmp in Ubuntu and Derivatives

The Qmmp release PPA has made packages available for Ubuntu 12.04 up to 17.04. Installation via the terminal is pretty straightforward.

Add the PPA by entering the following command in a new terminal window and enter your password when prompted:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:forkotov02/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install qmmp qmmp-plugin-pack

The above commands will install Qt4 version of Qmmp 0.10.9 in Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 14.04, and install Qt5 version of Qmmp 1.1.9 in Ubuntu 16.04 and higher.

Because you’re probably running Ubuntu 16.04 or higher run this command instead:

$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install qmmp-qt4 qmmp-plugin-pack-qt4

Uninstall Qmmp

Uninstalling Qmmp is even easier. All you have to do is run the following command in a new terminal window:

$ sudo apt-get remove qmmp qmmp-qt4 qmmp-plugin-* && sudo apt-get autoremove

And to confirm that it’s off your workstation, check your PPA repository via System Settings -> Software & Updates -> Other Software.

For other Linux distributions, follow the installation instructions at qmmp download page.

  1. XMMS rocks – haven’t tried Qmmp. but XMMS uses less cpu to play then most other players over Amarok etc. XMMS is Winamp for Linux – the best player out there.
