NordPass – A Powerful Password Manager for Linux

NordPass is a password manager that exists to enable users to remember all their complex login credentials, to autofill forms online, and to generate strong passwords. It offers a free account no credit card required and the ability to store data across multiple devices.

You might have guessed from its name that NordPass is developed, maintained, and marketed by the same company behind one of our recommended VPNs for any platform, NordVPN, whose Linux client is in the form of NordPy. It goes without mentioning that NordPass employs reliable encryption methods to keep user data private and secure.

Features in NordPass

  • Freemium password manager for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, Android.
  • Autosave and autofill passwords.
  • Generate strong passwords.
  • OCR scanning.
  • Biometric authorization.
  • Password sharing (requires Premium plan).
  • Plugins for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, and Safari.

  • Installation requires NordPass account.

NordPass features a straightforward UI with shortcuts for logins, secure notes, credit cards, shared items, and trash in the left navigation menu. In the settings panel, you have the option to edit General options, import/export data from 3rd-party apps, manage URLs, connect browser extensions, and edit advanced options.

How to Install and Use NordPass in Linux

NordPass is as easy to install as making a few clicks and that’s with thanks to its availability as a snap package.

Install NordPass in Debian/Ubuntu and Mint

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install snapd
$ sudo snap install nordpass

Install NordPass in CentOS/RHEL and Fedora

$ sudo yum install epel-release    [On CentOS/RHEL]
$ sudo yum install snapd
$ sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
$ sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$ sudo snap install nordpass

By this time you can launch NordPass from your app menu and when you do so for the first time you will need to enter a 6-digit code sent to your email. Register your account with your preferred email address and then log in. Enter the code in your email address and you will be prompted to create a Master password. Ensure that it is a strong one and you save it securely.

You now have access to using NordPass on one device unless you upgrade to a premium package and at this stage, you can create login entries or import them from a CSV file.
